The Ford Edge is a medium-sized crossover SUV released by the Ford Motor Company. The Ford Edge is built on the Ford CD3 platform. Originally, the Ford Edge’s platform was used on the Mazda 6 sedan. The platform is also shared with the Ford Fusion, Lincoln MXK, Lincoln MXZ, Mazda CX 9, and Mercury Milan.
The Ford Edge was first unveiled in the year 2006 at the North American International Auto Show in the month of January. That fall, it was first sold to the public as a 2007 model year vehicle. The first cars reached the Ford dealerships just before Christmas.
The Ford Edge was developed under the code name of the U387. It was built in the Canadian town of Oakville, Ontario at the Ford Oakville Assembly Complex.
As a crossover SUV, the Ford Edge is meant to fill the gap between minivans like the Freestar and sports utility vehicles like the Ford Explorer.
The Ford Edge is slotted directly below the Ford Taurus X in the SUV lineup of the Ford Motor Company. The Ford Edge has gotten rave reviews for its utilization of Ford’s brand new front-end design that comes complete with a three-bar chrome grille.
